Great article, maybe next we can try and reverse jinx the power play into doing something positive.

Good read. As much as I bitch about certain issues I have with how this team is run, the pk has been an unequivocal bright spot all season. The PK is genuinely fun to watch every night, and Shaw clearly deserves a lot of credit.

“The Flyers certainly did add a number of experienced penalty killers to their mix this season… Couturier…Atkinson…Hathaway…Walker..Poehling”

These are all veterans who (except Coots) won’t be on the team in two years. So I pulled the ice time data:
https://www.hockey-reference.com/teams/PHI/2024.html
Sanheim
Walker
Seeler
York
Cates
Atkinson
Laughton
Konecny
Poehling
Coots
Staal
Hathaway
Ristolainen

No one else gets more than 1:00pk per game.

I’ll accept that Brink and Foerster and Zamula have a lot to work on without also teaching them PK yet. But I’d much rather see Farabee/Frost/Tippett getting taught this for the future than I care about running it through a bunch of mercerenary veterans.

I’m a little late to reply here. But half of those names weren’t playing with the Flyers last year. It seems like this style PK can certainly be picked up quickly by incoming players. Why wouldn’t that hold true with those guys you listed (or new additions in future years).
