To me it seems like the 11/7 lineup would be better for road games where you don’t get to control match ups. Makes it harder for the other team to match against constantly changing forward lines.
At home I would prefer the 12/6 where you can match a stable Couturier line against the other teams top line.

Modern sports are laser-focused on combating fatigue through better practice and useage strategies (from reducing NFL contact practices to pitch-counts to NBA maintenance days). This is because it’s been rather undeniably proven that fatigue leads to worse performance and greater likelihood of injury.
Tortorella continues to eschew science in favor of his dinosaur brained training ideas (like his week of bag skates in training camp) and now just blatant overuse of players.
I wouldn’t even care that much if they went 11/7 given the roster situation. But they aren’t. He’s playing basically 9/7. Pretty much every night he’s got two forwards under 10 mins of TOI. It’s just stubborn and stupid.
There are only 32 forwards in the NHL averaging 20mins per game this season. On Tuesday, four different forwards had over 20 minutes of ice time. In their third game in 3 days.

third game in four days, obviously…

Torts gets his guys in shape for the early season well before most contenders have played themselves into shape. It shoots his teams up the standings quickly and makes him look good. Then, mid to late season when his players are tired, the good teams start to ramp it up, and his teams fall behind. He then blames the players.
As long as he can keep up the good numbers for the tradeable players I’ll be happy. I assume that’s the real reason to go 11-7 since there are more tradeable D assets.

I was thinking the same thing about potential trade targets. Don’t want to scratch Sealer or Walker because you don’t want to hurt trade value. Zamula looks like he’s at an important stage in development.

I liked Tort’s comment on how good Jon Cooper is at leveraging 11/7 on the few times he uses it. How he manages to get Kucherov frequently into situations playing against bottom 6 players.
