What the Flyers do has seemingly become a Rorschach test of sorts with a certain category of fan – the type that thinks that everything the Flyers do is doomed to fail because they havent tanked. And since no team makes perfect decisions, every mistake is touted as an example of “see? I TOLD YOU SO” with impressively high levels of smugness.

Personally, since the Flyers have indicated that their priority is Luchanko’s development, I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt w/r/t what they do here. I do like that they are focused on developing his offense and i dont have the hubris to assume that i, as a fan, know more than 3 people with so much NHL experience.

I dont know if the rebuild will be successful but it makes for interesting times – especially next off-season, when they have the cap space and the draft ammo to make moves. For my part, I am looking forward to seeing the Flyers play this season – mainly because of the Michkov factor, but also to see how Drysdale evolves, and Luchanko (for however many games he is there).

Is this what’s best for his development or best for us to win more games? I was very disappointed to hear Danny B use the Blues as a an example of a Stanley Cup blueprint. They were an aberration and in no way a good example of how to build a perennial Stanley Cup contending team. The vast majority of time Stanley Cup teams are built with high-end talent.

I’ve seen Nolan Patrick mentioned here and in other articles. I always dismiss him as just a bad pick, injuries aside. From the outside looking in, he seemed to lack any type of passion for the game and would have been a bust even injury free. See Todd Bergen for us older fans!
