I realize that fans, myself included, would love to see the timeline of recovery accelerate. But Briere’s methodical approach is starting to come together, and so far, I like what I’m seeing. We’ll see what happens in the draft, but I think he’s already proven himself as an astute thinker who understands what this team truly needs and is patient enough to wait until the right opportunity (like this one) presents itself.

Spot on. He’s had a very clear vision from the start and has been very consistent in how he has gone about realising that vision.

When you draft around 5-15, you hope for a player who can score 60+ points a season. With Zegras, they have gotten someone who has done that twice. And for someone they signed as a FA and a couple of moderate-value picks. He signed Sean Walker and turned him into a 1st rounder later in the year – that was a great move as well.

The GMing part, he has aced. Now he needs to hit on the #6 pick as well, and show that his team has the scouting dialled in as well.

It also frees them up to not draft purely on need – they CAN afford to add Porter Martone now if he is better than the other C options available.

Roseman has shown the benefits of this approach, and hopefully, the Flyers lean into it as well.

Danny knows how to play the GM game. No one knew the turmoil that was inside the building with Torts. Sure we all suspected it was complete chaos, but you never got that from Danny. It was always ” we trust Torts and his process”. That bodes well when he is looking to make deals. He isn’t giving tells. He will need to find dance partners but I very easily can see a Howie like draft this weekend. Moving back, then moving up. Wouldn’t shock me at all if he found a way to get 3 players in the top 16.
