Trading Patrick Beverley to another hopeful Eastern Conference contender surprised many people — including Beverley — last week. And while Cam Payne has had an excellent start to his Sixers tenure, Daryl Morey alluded to the reason for moving Beverley in a press conference following the trade.
"We thought this was the best way to build a team," Morey said following the trade deadline. "We saw his minutes going down, and we thought it was best for him to be at a place where he was going to play a bigger role on the team. Here, we saw that role diminishing.”
