Two of the Philadelphia Union’s rising talents will have their first opportunity with the U.S. men’s national team.
Midfielder Jack McGlynn and defender Nate Harriel have been included in Gregg Berhalter’s 25-player roster for the 2024 January camp. The training camp will run from Jan. 8-16 in Orlando before the team faces Slovenia on Jan. 20 at Toyota Field in Phoenix, Arizona.
It marks the first senior call-ups for both players in their international careers to date.
“This is an opportunity to identify and work with the next generation of players who have the potential to make an impact on our program,” Berhalter said. “We appreciate the support from MLS and all their clubs so that we can utilize this platform. Our priority is on getting as many players as possible experience in important competitions, and this camp and the match against Slovenia will be extremely valuable in the evaluation process.”
Both McGlynn and Harriel made their USMNT U-23 debuts last October before also featuring in November. They are eligible to feature in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France.
McGlynn, 20, made a career-high 27 appearances for the Union in 2023, finishing the season with two goals and two assists. The homegrown midfielder has made 69 MLS appearances to date, registering three goals and six assists.
The 22-year-old Harriel made 25 appearances for the Union last season, scoring in the 2023 MLS Cup Playoffs against the New England Revolution. The Florida native has made 55 MLS appearances to date since signing a homegrown contract in 2020.
The USMNT has a busy 2024 schedule which features involvement in the Copa America and CONCACAF Nations League Final Four.
