The Philadelphia Union’s academy has produced several top prospects over recent time and the U.S. Under-23 men’s national team will be seeking to reap the rewards this October.
Midfielder Jack McGlynn, and defenders Nathan Harriel and Brandan Craig have been named to the U.S. Under-23 men’s national team ahead of a pair of October friendlies against Mexico and Japan in Phoenix, Arizona. It will mark the first USMNT U-23 camp since the head coaching hiring of Marko Mitrovic to the position.
McGlynn, 20, has made 34 appearances for the Union this season across all competitions, scoring three goals and adding three assists. Since debuting for the Union’s first team in 2019, McGlynn has totaled 92 appearances for the club, contributing four goals and seven assists.
A former USMNT U-20 and U-16 player, McGlynn helped the Under-20’s win the CONCACAF U-20 Championship in 2022, qualifying the United States for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France.
McGlynn played in all five matches for the USMNT U-20’s at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Argentina, where the Americans reached the quarterfinal round before suffering elimination to eventual winners, Uruguay.
Harriel has made 67 combined appearances for the Union over the past three seasons. He has contributed four goals and one assist, while also providing defensive versatility at both full back positions.
The 22-year-old has previously represented the USMNT U-20’s, Under-19’s, and Under-18’s.
The 19-year-old Craig is currently on a season-long loan spell with fellow MLS club, Austin FC. Craig made his Union first team debut in a 7-0 league victory over DC United back in July 2022.
Craig has made 38 appearances for Philadelphia Union II in MLS NEXT Pro over the last two seasons, scoring three goals and adding three assists. A fellow USMNT U-20 teammate of McGlynn and forward Quinn Sullivan’s, Craig made 15 appearances for the Under-20’s.
The Men’s Olympic Soccer Tournament is restricted to players under the age of 23, with an allowance for three overage players.
The United States Men’s Soccer Team will be taking part in their first Olympic Games since 2008.
