I am as worried about Kyle’s mental health having to watch the Sixers this year to spare me the anguish. He’s taking more than one for the team. Vaya Con Dios.

Excellent article. As an aging female, if I get to the point of osteoporosis knees, I’ll be consulting Kyle for a second opinion! Also great to get through a whole article with no mention of ramping up, great job, Kyle.

This is a depressingly sensible analysis, Kyle.

what a mess. it’s a shame the injuries will be what he’s remembered for down the line instead of the beloved elite player he was from ’18-’22ish

The problem I have is Embiid was never a guy who took care of his body by getting in great shape. He basically has not gotten the most out of his talent in his mental approach to the game, his fitness, and the team that has surrounded him during his career ( not his fault of course). Ultimately, it’s time to turn the page on this era and think about what might have been. This has been a colossal failure. He lost me when he went to Paris to get a medal instead of getting into shape. Now that he’s a champion, however dubiously, he’s just another Ben Simmons- massive waste of talent.

“Rushing back” being the doctor’s recommendation is somehow both ironic and the most “expected” with Embiid. I wonder if playing in the Olympics was a part of this recommendation to help him ramp up.

Very good and thorough description of the situation. I know this seems like easy 20/20 hindsight, but I was surprised that they gave him the extension at all given his long-term and recent history of injuries, at least until he could prove he was healthy after last year. This organization remains kind of a mess, and it’s going to take quite a while for them to get it right given the draft picks they’ve already put at risk.
