Breaking down Matvei Michkov’s rookie season at 5-on-5

Matvei Michkov’s first full season of North American hockey is over. And what a season it was.
Playing 80 total games, Michkov led all rookies -- and the entire Philadelphia Flyers team -- with 26 goals. His 63 total points ranked him second among rookies, behind only presumptive Calder Trophy winner Lane Hutson, and second on his own club behind Travis Konecny.
His year, in other words, was a smashing success, even as it was a disappointing season for the Philadelphia Flyers as a whole. Flyers GM Daniel Briere certainly came away impressed, noting that Michkov had far exceeded his own expectations for the youngster in Year 1.
