ALLCITY NFL Power Rankings: After bumpy start, the Chiefs are back on top

For the third straight week, a new team is atop the ALLCITY NFL Power Rankings, but this one might have some staying power.

As we head into Week 8, here are thoughts on all 32 teams:

1. Kansas City Chiefs (2) (4-3) – The Chiefs’ 31-0 win over the Raiders was somehow Andy Reid’s first-ever regular-season shutout, which is mind-blowing.

2. Detroit Lions (3) (5-2) – Credit to the Lions for bouncing back strong against a Bucs team that never quit.

3. Philadelphia Eagles (4) (5-2) – The Eagles suddenly went under center more and used play-action to unlock their passing game. If DeVonta Smith can complement A.J. Brown like he did on Sunday, it would be huge for Philadelphia.

4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1) (5-2) – Rookie wide receiver Tez Johnson fell to the seventh round because of his size, but it now looks like he’ll be a crucial piece that helps decide how far the Bucs can go this year.

5. Buffalo Bills (5) (4-2) – The bye week came at a great time for the Bills and I’d hate to be the Panthers this week.

6. Los Angeles Rams (6) (5-2) – It’s really fun to see Davante Adams in a good offense again.

7. Indianapolis Colts (7) (6-1) – The Colts refuse to go away and tight end Tyler Warren looks like a home-run pick.

8. Seattle Seahawks (8) (5-2) – The Seahawks’ defensive front is so fun to watch. They consistently destroyed the line of scrimmage against the Texans.

9. San Francisco 49ers (9) (5-2) – The schedule is very manageable and getting to 10 wins shouldn’t be a problem after a 5-2 start.

10. Green Bay Packers (10) (4-1-1) – Jordan Love continues to be fine, but not overwhelmingly impressive. It feels like this offense still needs to reach another level to be a realistic Super Bowl contender.

11. Denver Broncos (11) (5-2) – The Broncos were on the verge of one of the most disappointing losses in franchise history before Bo Nix completely flipped the script and helped Denver score 33 points in the fourth quarter.

12. New England Patriots (14) (5-2) – If Drake Maye is going to continue this magical season, he needs to protect himself better. His head has hit the turf hard twice this season and he’s been fortunate to avoid a concussion.

13. Minnesota Vikings (13) (3-3) – It’s time to see what J.J. McCarthy can do with Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison. Alas, we wait another week.

14. Chicago Bears (17) (4-2) – The Bears are intercepting a ridiculous 5.64 percent of their opponents’ passes, more than two whole percentage points higher than the next highest team (Jaguars – 3.57 percent).

15. Baltimore Ravens (19) (1-6) – It seems hard to believe Lamar Jackson will sit out another week when this is an absolute must-win game against the Bears on Sunday.

16. Atlanta Falcons (15) (3-3) – It seems like the Falcons are just going to stay in the middle of the rankings all season long.

17. Los Angeles Chargers (16) (4-3) – The Chargers’ defense is in a very concerning four-game slump right now. They desperately need to get Khalil Mack going as he comes back from his elbow injury.

18. Jacksonville Jaguars (12) (4-3) – Trevor Lawrence needs to be better and more consistent for this team. The good news is Jacksonville gets the Titans following the bye week.

19. Pittsburgh Steelers (18) (4-2) – Micah Parsons finally racked up the sacks in Arizona, which has to be concerning for slow-moving Aaron Rodgers, who will face his former team Sunday night.

20. Carolina Panthers (22) (4-3) – The Panthers have surprisingly won four of five games, but the Bills and Packers are on deck.

21. Dallas Cowboys (24) (3-3-1) – It’s only a matter of time before kicker Brandon Aubrey makes a 70-yard field goal. Maybe in Denver?

22. Cincinnati Bengals (25) (3-4) – Anyone else suddenly optimistic Joe Flacco can keep the Bengals afloat until Joe Burrow returns?

23. Houston Texans (21) (2-4) – It’s tough to play a night game in Seattle, but C.J. Stroud seemed especially uncomfortable.

24. Washington Commanders (20) (3-4) – Rough seven-day stretch for the Commanders, who lost to the Bears, got blown out by the Cowboys and may have lost Jayden Daniels for an extended period.

25. Cleveland Browns (29) (2-5) – Dillon Gabriel didn’t have to do much with the Browns defense coming up with four takeaways against the lifeless Dolphins.

26. New York Giants (23) (2-5) – As soon as since-waived kicker Jude McAtamney missed the critical extra point with 40 seconds left, you knew what was about to happen. Just a brutal loss for Brian Daboll, who couldn’t afford it.

27. Arizona Cardinals (26) (2-5) – After five straight losses, is Jonathan Gannon desperate enough to stick with Jacoby Brissett over Kyler Murray after the bye week? He insists Murray is the starter.

28. New Orleans Saints (28) (1-6) – Chris Olave is starting to look like himself again, but Alvin Kamara is a non-factor and his pass protection against the Bears was abysmal.

29. Las Vegas Raiders (27) (2-5) – The Raiders only had three first downs in Kansas City and it’s a shame Ashton Jeanty is being wasted by this team.

30. Tennessee Titans (31) (1-6) – Cam Ward had some better moments this week, but – like many rookie quarterbacks before him – he needs to take better care of the football.

31. Miami Dolphins (30) (1-6) – So which quarterback will the Dolphins draft in the first round next spring?

32. New York Jets (32) (0-7) – Benching Justin Fields was one thing, but having owner Woody Johnson drive the bus over him too? That was completely unnecessary.
