The MLB Rule 5 draft -- the ultimate "diamond in the rough" event in sports -- will take place this Wednesday, December 11th at 2 pm EST.
On that day, Major League teams like the Philadelphia Phillies will fork over $100,000 to select a player left unprotected from another team's 40-man roster. Most of the time, the players selected end up being returned to the clubs they were drafted from. But every once in a while, you not only get a Major League mainstay, but you get a bonafide superstar.
