DALLAS – At first glimpse, the Phillies’ signing of former All-Star closer Jordan Romano comes with some concern, some risk. There’s no doubt that the guy is accomplished, on reputation just what the Phillies need at the back end of the bullpen.
But the power-armed right-hander was limited to just 15 appearances with the Toronto Blue Jays last season. Elbow surgery ended his season in July. On top of it all, the Blue Jays decided not to offer him salary arbitration this winter, preferring to try to bring him back at something lower than his projected cost of $7.75 million.
