Perhaps it is just the mellowing out that comes with age, but I remember the 1980 team as under more pressure. At least I felt greater intensity back then. Note that the Phillies had NEVER won a World Series before 1980.
Recall how Danny Ozark forgot to replace Luzinski with the much better defensive outfielder Jerry Martin in Left field in the 9th inning against the Dodgers in 1978. Luzinski then missed the ball that was hit to Left and the Dodgers went on to win the game. I remember the subway back to Fern Rock after the game to be totally silent. Sadness prevailed.
Recall how Bowie Kuhn then forced the game the next day to be played in the rain to the benefit of the Dodgers because the mound was soaked and Tommy John for the Dodgers had a short follow-through and it didn’t bother him. Steve Carlton had a long follow-through and he kept slipping.
We were cursed and cheated it felt like.
Then 1979 went backwards and the Phils signed Pete Rose for 1980.
I fully respect Bowa’s comments and the social media aspect but the pressure for we fans was very high……

I can’t shake some things as we approach Game 1 all on the offensive side of the ball.

The last 2 games against the Twins the Phillies really struggled to hit.
The last series against the Dodgers each LA starter had shutouts until they were pulled. Ohtani had a no hitter for 5 innings.
2023- Offensive shortage in games 6 & 7 at CBP which led to Arizona going to the next round.
2024- Offensive shortage against the Mets and the Phillies ousted.

I fear we are about to see a repeat. The bats are dead and the Dodgers will move on.
