Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and the Philadelphia 76ers embarrassed in the opening game, 137-98, at the hands of Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns and the New York Knicks. The Knicks came out with punching and the Sixers were never able to hit back to make it a game. Brunson got off to a hot start and finished with a game-high 35 points for New York.
