Has there ever been an uglier performance by the home team than the one we witnessed Wednesday?
Sure, Taijaun Walker’s latest eyesore was enough to make you cover your eyes and scream “UNCLE!” And that’s just what the 37,778 in attendance were saying between the boos, and the front office was probably thinking as those 14 opposing hitters were reaching base.
But Walker was only part of the ugliness on a day that ended with a 10-0 loss to the Houston Astros. In a sad confluence of ineptitude, the Phillies’ defense was bad and the offense did nothing. Through 7 ½ innings, the Phillies were out-hit, 17-0.
