Over the last handful of winters, the Phillies have written big checks for free agents such as Zack Wheeler, Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, Nick Castellanos and Trea Turner. The money kept on flowing as relationships were extended with J.T. Realmuto, Aaron Nola and Wheeler.
The winter of 2024-25 has a much different feel than previous ones. In the span of 12 days, the Phils addressed needs in the bullpen and the outfield with a pair of modest free-agent signings. Last week, it was late-game reliever Jordan Romano, a potential answer at closer for the 2025 club. And on Friday, the team finalized a deal with veteran outfielder Max Kepler.
