Salisbury: Phillies hierarchy stresses health, accountability, championships before first full-squad workout

CLEARWATER, Fla. – Before the clubhouse door sprung open and the Phillies' full spring training squad took to the fields of Carpenter Complex on Monday morning, manager Rob Thomson observed the time-honored tradition of addressing the troops. These meetings are generally pretty standard. Staff is introduced. A few basic team rules — work hard, be on time — are covered. Then comes the message that sets the tone for camp and the season beyond.
Thomson kept this one brief. He emphasized staying healthy and told the players to be smart as they ramp-up physically throughout the spring.
