Rafael Marchan hasn’t been in the Phillies organization forever, but it sure seems that way.
He was just 16 when he signed with the club out of Venezuela a decade ago, just 17 when he first came to the United States to play in the minor leagues.
Back then, he barely spoke enough English to fill a catcher’s mitt.
Now?
Perfecto.
He’s had some interesting tutors.
“Being around the American players has helped me a lot,” he said. “And TV shows. I’ve learned a lot from TV shows. I really like Grey’s Anatomy. It’s a long, long series. I watch it every day.”
