Saquon Barkley barely broke stride when asked to offer his top five running backs in NFL history. It was a question he had seemingly considered before. Barkley doesn’t merely play running back better than almost anyone. He’s somewhat of a historian, eager to discuss running backs from his youth — or even before he was born.
“In no order: Barry, Marshall, Walter, Emmitt, A.P.,” Barkley said in a conversation with PHLY earlier this month, referring to Barry Sanders, Marshall Faulk, Walter Payton, Emmitt Smith, and Adrian Peterson. He joined Sanders and Peterson in the 2,000-yard club last Sunday.
