It was one of those perfect Philadelphia autumn nights. The air was crisp, the lights along Broad Street glowed, and the city had that wonderful energy it gets when the weather turns and there’s something happening everywhere you look. And there I was, just off Broad Street at the Philadelphia Film Society, about to watch I Play Rocky, the story of how Sylvester Stallone fought to make the movie that would forever change his life and become an indelible part of ours.
Fifty years after Rocky Balboa first walked into our lives, a theater full of Philadelphians had gathered to celebrate the character who, in so many ways, has come to define this city. I went in expecting a wonderful evening of nostalgia, a chance to revisit something I’ve loved my entire life. What I didn’t expect was to find myself experiencing the same emotions I felt watching the original.
But that’s exactly what happened.

Good Lord, Anthony – this was legit a superb article that got me even more excited to see this movie. You are a bigger than life personality on here and radio in your past life – but your writing skills are tremendous, sir.
Thank you!
