David Vazquez enjoyed a positive first season in MLS NEXT Pro and will now try and make a major impact on the international stage this November.
Vazquez was named to the U.S. Under-17 men’s national team roster for the upcoming U-17 World Cup in Indonesia. The 17-year-old was named to Gonzalo Segares’ 21-player roster on Wednesday ahead of the Americans’ involvement in the competition.
A second-place finish for the Americans at the 2023 Concacaf U-17 Championship helped them secure a World Cup berth. It is the program’s 18th World Cup involvement at the U-17 level, tying them with Brazil for the most on the international level.
Vazquez has made 10 appearances for the USMNT U-17 squad to date. He registered four assists in 350 minutes of playing time at the Concacaf U-17 Championship.
At club level, Vazquez scored five goals and registered two assists in 22 appearances for Union II in MLS NEXT Pro this past season. He helped Marlon LeBlanc’s squad reach the MLS NEXT Pro Playoffs after finishing seventh in the Eastern Conference.
Union II forward Sal Olivas was also named a first alternate on the USMNT U-17 roster ahead of the tournament. Olivas made five MLS NEXT Pro appearances in 2023 for Union II.
