To hear Vic Fangio tell it, the Eagles’ defensive coordinator wasn’t just sitting up in the press box scratching his head as the Bucs forged a 24-0 lead by the middle of the second quarter Sunday.
Fangio did acknowledge Tuesday during his weekly news conference that Tampa Bay’s gameplan of attacking the Eagles with short, quick passes surprised him. But he said he didn’t just stare at this development, dumbfounded. (Although his players seemed to do so.)
“We tried to communicate that early, that we had to get tighter,” Fangio said, after telling reporters that his corners do indeed have the freedom to adjust their drops and play press coverage, “by matchup and receiver split.”
