Rick Lovato has been the Eagles' long snapper since 2016. For eight years, he wore No. 45. This offseason, he changed from No. 45 to No. 49 at the behest of linebacker Devin White. What a good teammate.
When the doors opened for the first open locker room session after White's unceremonious release, a few beat reporters approached Lovato about the possibility of switching back to his customary number. Alas, the long snapper explained, jersey number changes are not permitted by the NFL during the season.
Those reporters walked away, and our journey began.
